Oct. 29 VX nerve agent rocket disposal begins at Umatilla  The Umatilla Chemical Agent Disposal Facility (UMCDF) safely destroyed its first VX M55 rocket at 12:44 p.m. today. It was the first munition destroyed in Umatilla’s VX nerve agent disposal campaign, which follows the GB (sarin) disposal campaign that was completed on July 8.

Sept 24  Depot plans drill Wednesday  A security preparedness drill is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 26. The depot’s sirens will be sounded, but not the community sirens. This is a coordinated exercise between the depot, the Umatilla Chemical Agent Disposal Facility, and off-post communities.

July 27 CSEPP siren test scheduled for, Tuesday, July 31
A test of the Oregon Chemical Stockpile Emergency Preparedness Program (CSEPP) siren system is scheduled for noon on Tuesday, July 31. The test coincides with tests of CSEPP sirens on the Umatilla Chemical Depot and in Benton County, Washington.

July 9 Last GB chemical munitions in Oregon stockpile destroyed
The Umatilla Chemical Agent Disposal Facility (UMCDF) today destroyed the last GB (sarin-filled) chemical munitions stored at the Umatilla Chemical Depot. The last 155mm diameter GB artillery projectile was destroyed at 7:56 a.m. this morning, marking the official end of the campaign.

Lt. Col. Bob Stein will assume command of the Umatilla Chemical Depot from Lt. Col. Donna Rutten in a July 12 change of command ceremony. The ceremony begins at 10 a.m. at the depot.
July 2 Local FEMA official receives national CSEPP award
Jesse Seigal, a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) public affairs officer based in Pendleton, Ore., received an Army Award for Superior Service during the National Chemical Stockpile Emergency Preparedness Program (CSEPP) Workshop in Chicago last week.
June 21 Benton County Emergency Services announces Monthly Test of CSEPP Tone Alert Radios & Sirens
The monthly test of tone alert radios and warning sirens in southern Benton County will take place Tuesday, June 26, at noon.  The test is conducted by Benton County Emergency Management and is part of the Chemical Stockpile Emergency Preparedness Program (CSEPP) for the Umatilla Chemical Depot located near Hermiston, Oregon.

Feb 15 Umatilla Chemical Agent Disposal Facility Update
Feb 15 Umatilla chemical munitions disposal facility passes 50 percent destruction numerical milestone  
The Umatilla Chemical Agent Disposal Facility (UMCDF) has destroyed just over half of the total number of chemical munitions originally stockpiled at the Umatilla Chemical Depot (UMCD). Those munitions contained about 24 percent of the original chemical agent tonnage stored at Umatilla.

Jan. 25 Umatilla depot begins final sarin-filled munitions campaign
Workers at the Umatilla Chemical Depot (UMCD) began the final GB (sarin) munitions campaign today when they moved 155mm diameter GB artillery projectiles to the disposal facility at the depot. The Umatilla Chemical Agent Disposal Facility (UMCDF) plans to begin destroying those munitions no later than Monday, Jan. 29

Jan. 8 OSHA awards ‘Star’ status to Umatilla Chemical Agent Disposal Facility for safety and health commitment
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has recognized the Umatilla Chemical Agent Disposal Facility (UMCDF) for its exemplary performance and commitment to safety and health. OSHA recently approved UMCDF’s application for “Star” status in the OSHA Voluntary Protection Program (VPP). (January 8,2007)

Jan 3 Umatilla Depot safely destroys last 8-inch sarin-filled artillery projectile
UMATILLA CHEMICAL DEPOT, Hermiston, Ore. – Workers at the Umatilla Chemical Agent Disposal Facility (UMCDF) have safely destroyed the last of 14,246 8-inch diameter GB (sarin) nerve agent projectiles originally stockpiled at the Umatilla Chemical Depot (UMCD). The disposal facility destroyed the last sarin-filled 8-inch artillery projectile or “shell” in the Umatilla stockpile just after 8 a.m. today. The facility processed its first 8-inch GB projectile on Sept. 28, 2006. The final shipment of 8-inch GB projectiles from the depot storage area to the disposal plant was completed yesterday. (click here for full story)
